Leaps and Bounds

The other day, we went to North Pass to look for some whales. This is what we found.

Two calves were playing around. In this photo, one is lobtailing while the other makes a huge splash after breaching. Lobtailing is when a whale sticks its tail up out of the water and slaps it on the surface for a while.

Caught a whale at the beginning of a breach!

Big splash!

This breach came way up out of the water!

Breaching right by the boat!

Another close breach!

Many of these photos are a little fuzzy because it all happens so quickly that my camera doesn't have time to focus. But you get the idea. Those two calves were having a great morning! We sure had a spectacular time watching them.
